Help us Build a Gear Library!
Calling for gently-used camping gear! Did you get a new kit for Christmas? Or just need to clean out your basement? Donate your old stuff to a great cause! BMWF is building a gear library so that we can loan out quality outdoor gear for our volunteer projects to anyone who needs it.
One of our goals an an organization is to remove barriers so that more people can experience and connect with the wilderness that belongs to all of us. Most people do not have a backcountry kit – and we all know, they ain't cheap. Our hope is that, by providing quality gear to borrow – with our already well-organized, guided, free-of-charge Volunteer Adventures – we can allow new and more diverse communities to access their public lands.
We're looking for gear that still has plenty of life left in it to provide a safe and (relatively) comfortable backcountry experience. This includes:
Two person 3-season lightweight tents
Sleeping bags, rated +15 to +30 deg. (Packable and lightweight)
Sleeping pads
Sleeping bag liners
Backpacks (50 liters minimum)
Stuff sacks - Various sizes
Headlamps
If you have anything you're interested in donating, please contact Program Director Rebecca Powell at rpowell@bmwf.org or (406) 387-3808. Thank you for helping us connect more people with wild places!
If you’re a volunteer who is interested in borrowing gear from the gear library, please contact Rebecca to get set up! For others, we’re still working out to logistics for how to make the library available to some of our partners and groups – check back soon! We hope to have this program operating by summer 2022.
