Stories from the Backcountry: Preserving the Resource Edition

  • Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation 10 Hungry Horse Dr. Hungry Horse United States (map)

Gather ‘round for a rowdy bunch of stories straight from the Bob – we’re hosting more campfire tales at Sacred Waters Brewing Co.! This lively evening will celebrate the launch of our 2025 Volunteer Adventure schedule, and kick off our spring fundraising campaign to get our full schedule of crews into the backcountry this summer.

Stories from the Backcountry: Preserving the Resource edition will feature two speakers, Roy Jacobs and Ben Chappelow, who have dedicated their lives to protecting the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex.

Roy and Ben are two sides of the conservation coin. Roy Jacobs has been a hunter, guide and conservationist along the Rocky Mountain Front for decades. As a hunting guide, he’s explored many a nook and cranny across the Complex. Roy was front and center for the passage of the Rocky Mountain Heritage Act, which expanded the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex by 67,000 acres in 2014.

On the flip side, FWP game warden Ben Chappelow has been patrolling the Great Bear and Bob Marshall Wilderness areas since 2020. On horseback in the summer and skis or snowshoes in the winter, Ben travels deep into the Bob to chat with hunters and anglers, help with bear conflicts, and monitor backcountry camps. It’s safe to say, he’s seen some stuff in the backcountry.

We can’t wait to hear these fellas spin their yarns and tall tales to help us celebrate the launch of our 2025 Volunteer Adventures that will open for registration on Monday, April 14th! Come learn more about volunteering and where we’ll be working this summer.

This event will also kick off our spring fundraising campaign to help us close the gaps in funding for our summer season. We have a full schedule planned for this summer – 47 projects, including 37 Volunteer Adventures. While a good portion of our funding has unfrozen, we still need to raise $60,000 by May 31st to help us hit the ground running and fulfill our full slate of programming for the season.

We hope you’ll join us for a fantastic evening of stories celebrating our favorite wild place!
